About Kat

I started this blog to share with you all the results of years of turning trash into treasures. Hopefully I'll spark some new creative thoughts and if that happens I hope that you'll share your discoveries and together we’ll build a blog that will singlehandedly reduce global warming and save the world! Okay, maybe that’s a grand goal but we should be able to at least downsize our own trash output.

Vegetables for Recipes

Many recipes don’t call for a whole vegetable, and the unused portion often spoils before I can use it. So I chop the entire vegetable when making the recipe and put the unused portion into a labeled container, storing it in the freezer. I keep a list of what is in the freezer to make it easier next time I need that vegetable.

Scented Linens

I don’t use bar soap but I also don’t like throwing out soap bars that sometimes come my way. One day I noticed how nice one of the bars smelled and so I unwrapped it and placed in in my linen cupboard. Within hours my linens had picked up the scent from the soap bar. Nice!

Tip: don’t place unwrapped soap directly in contact with your towels. The towels’ nap picks up particles of soap which will rub off on your skin when using them after showering.
